Best Cover Letters For Getting Job Interviews

There's no doubt about it. People who write the best cover letters get the best job interviews. Research shows that the most effective, cover letters have a number of common characteristics. They follow a 3-part format that consistently garners positive results and earns the job applicants who wrote them highly sought after job interviews.

Even if you're not a great writer, you can write great cover letters by following the format listed below. Use this format to write the best cover letters for getting job interviews. If you write your cover letter and still aren't comfortable with the result, have no fear. The link at the end of the article offers cover letter writing services and software that may assist you.

But first things first...

1. Grab Attention in Your First Paragraph is the first tip to writing best cover letters for getting job interviews.

Hiring managers review hundreds of cover letters and resumes for every job they fill. To get attention, your cover letter must stand out. Here are examples of effective and interesting first paragraphs. Choose the one that works best for your situation and modify it to suit your needs.

State how your skills and experience match the job description and would be a benefit to the organization.

Example: After graduating from Northeastern University with a B.S. in Computer Graphic Technology, I spent the summer interning in New York City at Sunrise Communications. During that time, I brainstormed ideas and story concepts with Sunrise's Creative Team. I drew detailed storyboards that formed the basis for local and international TV advertisements. At Sunrise, I learned to share ideas, accept criticism and problem-solve in a high-pressured environment.
Example: In response to this opportunity, I would like to call attention to my experience in producing and directing numerous PR events throughout Orange County as well as my large network of both celebrity and national media contacts.
Example: Since graduating from Simmons College Prince Program of Retail Management, I've been involved in all aspects of retail, from front-of-the-store management and training to inventory planning, buying, and merchandising. I have worked in both specialty and mass markets and have broad-based experience dealing with customers, fellow employees, management, and vendors. I thrive in a fast-paced environment and feel energized by the thought of helping manage the L.L. Bean Women's Department.

If you've talked with the hiring manager, use the first paragraph to remind her of the conversation.

Example: Thank you for calling me about the Character Animator position posted on Pixar's website. I enjoyed talking with you and learning more about this position.

If appropriate, don't be afraid to name drop.

Example: Henry Smith, who supervised my work as a summer intern with your firm, recommended that I apply for the position of Associate Attorney.

Mention something you know about the organization.

Example: I read the June 10th issue of The Kentucky Sun with great interest. The article, "How One Restaurant Makes a Difference" applauded Pannucci's contribution to the Good Shepherd Food Bank. I believe my experience as a pastry chef as well as my work on the Eastside Food Pantry's Board of Directors makes me a perfect candidate for the position of Pannucci Head Pastry Chef.
Example: Cuddledown's branded voice is recognizable and respected; its high-quality products are well positioned in the market. I would welcome the chance to develop and execute marketing strategies to increase sales and distribution of the company's products.

Get their attention by asking a question.

Example: Are you looking for a self-motivated individual who has organized large-scale events and significantly improved customer retention?
2. Keep Their Attention in the Middle is the second tip to write best cover letters for getting job interviews.

As you write, keep the company's point of view in mind. Try to anticipate what the hiring manager is looking for and include that information. If you have an employment gap or some other item on your resume that you think the hiring manager will question, succinctly and without apology, answer the issue in the middle section of your cover letter.

In the middle section of your cover letter, tell how your education and experience match the job description. Use specific examples to show how your skills meet the job requirements. .

Example: To manage this department, I would call on my experience at Jordan Marsh as the Liz Claiborne Department Manager. There, I merchandised product and motivated my sales team to generate the highest company-wide sales volume for dress collections. I am a natural sales person and definitely "have a knack" for merchandising and visual presentation.
Example: Throughout my years as a caseworker, I have helped many clients identify and apply for jobs that match their skill sets. I believe my dedication to the people I serve and my ability to identify and match their strengths to the job market makes me the perfect candidate for Employment Specialist position at Crossroads Community Services.

If appropriate, mention specific goals you have accomplished.

Example: While at Nordstrom's, I motivated my team to exceed department sales goals of $1.2 million annually. The team generated the highest company-wide sales volume for the dress collection.
Example: While providing administrative support to the Director of Marketing and Sales, I reduced company travel expenditures by $37,000 in my first three months by renegotiating contracts with the department's suppliers.

3. End your Cover Letter with an Action Follow Up and a Respectful Close is the third tip for writing best cover letters for getting job interviews.

Your closing paragraph or sentence should encourage action.

·Example: As requested, I have enclosed my resume for your review. I look forward to discussing my qualifications and learning more about the position. Please contact me at 555.555.5555 or by email at dede@afewgoodwords.com with any additional questions. Thank you for your time and consideration.

End your letter with a respectful and professional close. "Sincerely yours" or "Respectfully yours" works well.

That's it. Use this 3-part format to write best cover letters for getting job interviews. If you do, you'll end up with a cover letter that will stand up to the competition and get you the job interviews you deserve.

Best of luck in your job search.

Getting Real - Helping Teens Find Their Future - Book Review

I just finished reading "Get Real: Helping Teens find their Future" by Kenneth Carter Gray. I run a teen jobs website and I have read many books related to teen jobs and career exploration for teens. It is my opinion that this book is the very best in the career guidance category. This book is very different from most teen books out there. The author does not write about how to get teen jobs or resumes or interviews or any of the mechanics of the job search. Instead, the author focuses on why teens should pick a career path early and the benefits of choosing your career interests while still in high school.

The book is very will written and offers a wealth of current information as well as statistics and original ideas. It is obvious that the author has his PhD because the depth of research is extraordinary. What I like most about the book is that it explains how choosing a career is an individual experience and one size does not fit all. For example, the author suggests that most people go to college because they think they are supposed to. He challenges this idea and offers great alternatives for high schoolers. I also like how the author challenges other long held beliefs and really brings the reader up to date with what is happening real time in the entry level job market.

In closing I would recommend this book not only to high school students, but it should be required reading for all educators and parents.

Dan Keller is the CEO of the popular teen jobs website that focuses on part time jobs, summer jobs and a range of internship opportunities, ranging from marketing intern jobs to financial and artistic internships. Dan also runs a teens forum [http://www.teenmovement.com/] called Teen Movement.

Insurance Job Interview Advice - Ten Foolproof Tips for Getting Insurance Jobs

Insurance job interviews are never easy. It's difficult to make a good impression & even harder to impress your interviewer. We've come up with ten top tips to help you get the insurance job you'd been hoping for.

1. Learn About the Company - you can never be over-prepared for a job interview. Spend some time browsing the insurance company's website. Learn about their products & services as well as their competitors. It will make you seem much more knowledgeable and show that you are taking the interview seriously.

2. Think About The Questions - No matter how the interview is conducted there are a number of questions that you are likely to be asked. "Tell us about your experience?" or "What attracted you to apply for the job?" while the wording might change what they are to trying to find out will not. You don't need to script a response that will sound artificial. Though for questions you are likely to be asked, think in advance about how you will answer.

3. Look at your CV - It's easy to forget what you've put in your CV or covering letter. It's likely all your interviewer will know about you is contained in those documents, so it's likely to prompt a number of their questions. Refresh yourself with their content in advance so you're primed for the questions.

4. Dress Appropriately - It's not always sensible to wear a suit to a job interview but it is important to dress approriately smart. Try and find out about the dress code of the company and then dress a little smarter. It's important to make a good first impression but you have to be comfortable.

5. Answer Concisely - There's one thing worse than a bad answer in a job interview. A long answer. Try to answer the question with out getting carried away in the detail. It's important not to seem abrupt but it important not to get carried away with your answers either. It makes you seem unsure of your answer & can waste valuable interview time when you could be impressing your potential employer.

6. Use Good Body Language - Shrugging & using "closed" body language can ruin a perfectly good interview. Try your best to be relaxed & open. Use your hands expressively & think about mirroring the body language of your interviewer.

7. Ask Questions - try and prepare some questions for your interview. It can make you seem interested in the role & shows you are keen on the job. However don't ask obvious questions or those which could be easily answered if you had done some prior research.

8. Be On Time - People get delayed all the time so leave some extra leeway in your travelling time. If you turn up late you are fighting a battle to impress your potential bosses so much they forget about your poor punctuality.

Tips on Getting Your Yard and House Ready For the Summer Months

Spring is here and it is time for some cleaning inside and outside your home. After months of harsh winter weather and staying indoors, it is time to do a thorough overhaul on your yard as well as the exterior of your home to get ready for the beautiful summer months. This article will describe all of things you need to do from getting a Sacramento pressure washing for your brick home or stone patio to doing all of your windows with Sacramento window cleaning.

The first step to Spring cleaning your exterior living quarters is clean up. After the winter and all of the leaves have totally fallen all and hopefully removed in the Fall go back over the entire yard with a rake. Get rid of all of the old leaves, twigs and other things that are covering your planting beds and grass area. This is a big job but one that makes your yard look so much better once completed. Some people also choose to thatch their yards at this time.

The next step for your yard and gardens is to get it ready for the planting season. Take time to spread a fertilizer down on both your garden areas as well as your yard. This should be followed up with a heavy application of Preen to cut down the amount of weeds that will come up in the warmer months. The last step before planting flowers would be to purchase mulch or bark to spread underneath bushes, trees and flower beds. This will help to eliminate weed growth and to keep the moisture concentrated to the soil. It also helps the property to look really clean and fresh. Now you are ready to plant your annuals to have beautiful color all summer long.

The next step is to address any concrete or stone areas as well as a deck. The best way to clean up dirt, mold and weeds that grow on or around a patio is to use a pressure washer to get it looking like new. One can also be used on a deck prior to repainting or staining it to give it a just built appearance. If you have a brick home, the washer can also be used to clean the exterior of your home as well as clean out all of the gutters. You do not have to buy one of these washers as they are available to rent or you can hire someone to do it for you.

The final step is to repaint old wooden furniture or get some new fresh pillows to place on your outdoor seats. You can buy various colors in the weather proof fabric that will give your seating area a great new look. A nice front door always makes a big impression and maybe a new color or a fresh coat of paint will help to make your exterior look better. The final touch is some beautiful hanging plants and flower pots and you are ready to spend some time outdoors!

Chuck R. Stewart has hired a Sacramento pressure washing company and a Sacramento window cleaning company to help his parents with the housework.

The Guide to Getting a Job at 14

As early as the age of 14, you may be starting to think of how you can earn your own money to spend for some of the things your parents will not readily give to you (unless you do something drastic in the area of your life they are most fond of) like concert tickets, top of the line gadgets and games.

But how can one get a job at 14?

This is a very legitimate question and be proud of yourself if you are already in the stage where you are asking about this. It shows how responsible you are as an individual.

But going back to the question, here are some quick rules in getting a job at 14.

1. Make sure you are serious about getting a job.

2. Even if you are just being interviewed by the Mrs. Garcia, the old lady across the street, regarding a house sitting job, make sure you are dressed to the nines. No need for the full blown business suit. Just smart casual should do.

3. Also, bring a resume all the time if you have interviews. Also best to keep extras just in case.

4. If you end up seeing no jobs for 14 year olds in your area, maybe you can advertise your own services through the internet or using the local newspaper.

5. Make sure you check the internet for jobs. One online job which pays well that even 14 year olds can do is going to online paid survey sites.

There are several ways to get a job at 14, but my favorite is paid form filling. It pays the most, and is open to anyone 13 and above.

GPT Infinity is the #1 rated job for teens. Start survey filling today and make a big nice wad of cash!

Cruise Jobs - Five Tips for Getting Hired

How will I find my dream job on a cruise ship? Who will hire me? What do I need to know? Where will I get tips for getting hired? You will find the answers to these and other questions about working on a cruise ship if you read the following excerpts from Mary Fallon Miller's book 'How to Get a Job with a Cruise Line'. You'll get to know how much they will pay you, what you'll be doing and how long you will be doing it.

Imagine what it takes to operate a floating resort - a virtual city. That is what a cruise ship is. It employs experienced workers in over three hundred kinds of jobs to run this kind an enterprise. Here are some good tips for getting hired! Those people that are seasoned in the entertainment industry will be considered first - and then if you are proficient in such occupations as hospitality, tourism, restaurants and bars, teaching, childcare, sales, customer relations, gaming, marketing, fitness, health and beauty, medicine and healthcare, administration, banking, accounting and financial management, your skills will also be in demand.

Cruise lines hire dependable, competent people with outgoing, positive attitudes, students, career-changers, retirees - "people" people, who enjoy working with others. Your number one priority as a cruise line employee is to provide a safe, fun and memorable vacation experience.

To get hired on a cruise ship you need to: Know the players - Royal Caribbean International, Princess and Carnival are known as the 'Big Three', with the largest fleets in the industry. These employers should be at the top of your list. Choose jobs that interest you - Practice public speaking whenever possible, study a foreign language or get your CPR or Lifesaving Certification. Sell yourself - Apply early and often - but don't pester the Personnel Office by phone. Send follow up letters and resume updates. Great tips for getting hired!

The cruise industry hires year-round and seasonally. Most employees work for a period of six to nine months with one to two months off. Many departments add staff for holiday cruises, and peak sailings through winter and spring. Doctors and nurses can find year round employment or assignments as brief as two to three months. Peak hiring times for youth counselors? Holidays and summer - perfect for students or teachers who love to travel. List your specific dates of availability (e.g. from May 15 to Sept. 1) so the Personnel Office knows how to schedule you.

The pay compares to good jobs ashore - plus you save a lot of money because most expenses are left behind. On board ship your room and meals are included. No more rent, grocery, electric, or gas bills! You can bank your salary and tips, or blow it all in ports of call. Sample current pay ranges: Casino Manager: $2,000-3,000 per month (revenue sharing.) Gift Shop Retail Sales: $1,000-1,500 per month (commission included.) Hairstylist / Beautician: $1,000-1,300 per month (tips included.) Shore Excursion Manager: $1,800 - $3,000 per month, plus commission.

If you really are interested in learning how to get a cruise ship job, you'll need to know what you want to work at, find out who's hiring, determine how to get hired, establish whether it is year-round or seasonal employment you'll be involved with and how much they will pay you. Essential Resume Tips for Getting Jobs in Restaurant

Most restaurant recruiters end up going through more than 50 resumes on a given day for jobs in restaurant. For you to have a better chance of catching their attention, your resume needs to have a look and feel devoid of errors. There are some standard don'ts which if properly understood and adhered to, will benefit you and your career greatly.
Resume Tips – What You Should Not Do:
There are some things which are best not incorporated in your resume. They generally leave a bad impression on the recruiter, thereby significantly diminishing your chances of the initial call up.
Spelling and Grammatical Mistakes:
Nothing evokes a greater disinterest in a resume than spelling or grammatical mistakes. Such mistakes convey carelessness on the part of the candidate and underline the impression that he is not completely interested in the job. Always proofread your resume before applying to a job.
Numerous Jobs of Short Durations:
Every recruiter wants to check the attrition rate in his company. Any candidate who frequently switches jobs is mostly avoided by recruiters.
No Career Direction:
A recruiter almost certainly looks for a logical growth in a candidate's career. Jobs done in various unrelated fields do not convey the right message to the recruiter. For example, a person who has dabbled between a sales position, then switched over to working as a travel agent and from there went in the restaurant business will almost likely be rejected.
No Job Durations:
It is a bad practice which conveys the impression that you are hiding something from the recruiter. Every recruiter wants to know how long you have worked for and in what company. Simply giving the name of the company without the total tenure period will hamper an otherwise good resume.
Resume Exceeding 2 Pages:
Recruiters like to be informed about the essential highlights in your career. They want information in a clear and concise format. Except for a highly experienced and senior person, it is highly advisable to keep your resume limited to at most 2 pages. You should stay away from including information about your marital status, hobbies, weight, height etc.
Jobs in Restaurant – A Promising Future for You:
The restaurant industry is expanding at a great scale and promises to swell even more. A quick restaurant job search on the internet will provide you with varied careers in restaurant industry. Whatever is your educational qualification, getting a job in a restaurant is easy and highly rewarding. From being a chef to a restaurant manager to a waiter, a career in the restaurant business is open for one and all.
