College Students - How To Get A Job This Summer

Most college students look forward to taking a vacation during summer when they are off from school. It sure is worth taking a short break after the brain challenging times in school. However, with all prices now on the upswing, it's also time that students lessen the load from their parents by becoming independent and earning their own keep while not busy with school work.

Many students are having difficulty finding a job that will suit their skills and salary range. But this won't really be much of a problem if one is resourceful enough. There are actually various resources from where to look for a decent job.

Check your school's administration or college career services office. All colleges and universities normally have employment offices that help students find the right job during and after their academic career, provide personal career counseling and career networking assistance. They also have contacts with companies in search of fresh graduates. Jobs provided may be for the summer notably for undergraduate students or for long term employment for those about to graduate. To find out all about this, visit your school website or personally visit the administration office.

Your personal networking can prove beneficial as well. You can get information on available summer jobs from the organizations you belong to, from friends, relatives or a friend of a friend. Your teacher can also be another source. Just remember to ask around.

Visit online recruiting sites such as the Careerbuilder, one of the most popular source of employment in the U.S. Students can scan the numerous companies that post their job openings on this site. All you have to do is simply type in the keywords and instantly, you will be provided with a lot of choices. Another job site for college students looking for entry level jobs is MonsterTrak, said to be the biggest and most visited college-targeted site. The site offers job listings, resume posting, job search tips and career contact network.

If you have not found a good job from a nationwide recruiting site, then try a local employment site. There are companies that would rather use a local employment website to attract applicants from a particular area or region. Your best option here is to use Google.

For those not yet prepared to take on the pressures of real work, there are still other options. These include internships, short term work experiences and volunteering. An internship is an ideal way to feel like being in a real job but without the permanent commitment.

Keep in mind that it's not the number of jobs that you apply to that counts but your strategy in applying for that position that will ultimately land you that job. Of course, you should consider applying for as many jobs but don't limit yourself to just one field. It's best that you are flexible and focused.
Finally, if getting employed is not a priority for you, maybe you can start your own business. This is especially applicable for students who have a strong entrepreneurial spirit. You can create a business proposal and present it to friends who may be interested to join in. Having your own business means being your own boss.

Summer Camp Counselors: Just Who Exactly is Looking After Our Kids?

Breaking and Entering, Grand Theft Auto, Drunk in Public, Sex Offender. These charges seem like they belong to a career criminal. However, someone with this sort of rap sheet could be responsible for looking after your son or daughter overnight. Sounds scary? What if your child's counselor was a pedophile? While summer camps provide an opportunity for children to meet new friends and gain new experiences, their counselors may also pose a danger to the wellbeing of your child.

Let's be honest, summer camps won't hire just anybody. If a potential counselor looks like they may be a bad fit to be around kids, they probably won't be working with your children. Conversely, potential counselors who are either impressive in person or appear well qualified usually get hired. Most of the time, the counselors who are hired are a great influence on children and do their jobs well. However, as the old expression says "a few bad apples will spoil the whole darn bunch." Thus, no matter how many great counselors there are, it only takes a few undesirables to harm your child or disrupt his or her life.

It would be unfair to expect everyone to have a spotless past. Heck, we all get into a little trouble now and then. However, a criminal record (especially one involving children) is inexcusable for someone who is going to be mentoring or looking after our children. Though a reformed criminal is supposed to be considered a safe member of the community, most parents really don't want these individuals looking after our kids.

Even worse than having a criminal past may be those who are headed for a criminal future. According to a recent NY Times article, researchers discovered pedophiles that targeted camps with young children that were hiring counselors. These pedophiles then applied for jobs at the camps with one reportedly getting hired. Though it is disturbing to think about, working at a summer camp gives pedophiles an enormous opportunity to harm our children.

The time is now for children's summer camps to toughen up their counselor screening process. One simple method of achieving safer candidates for children is the background check. The common background check found at search sites like PeopleFinders.com can provide camps with a wealth of information about potential counselors including criminal history, residential history, aliases, age and marital status. This information can be used in numerous ways by a camp to eliminate a candidate immediately (as in the case of certain criminal convictions) or raise a "red flag" on a counseling candidate (as in the case of multiple aliases or residences). Therefore, background checks enable a camp more protection from potentially harmful counselors than do traditional hiring methods of interviewing and simple resume review.

Parents, however, don't have to rely on a camp to screen out detrimental counselors. The simplicity and inexpensiveness of online background checks allows parents to easily check on any member of their child's camp staff. These checks allow a parent to personally determine if a particular counselor is worthy of being responsible for his or her child.

In writing this article, it is our hope at People Search News that parents will not take for granted the potentially devastating effects a camp counselor could have on their children. Please inquire with your child's camp if their hiring process includes background checks. If it doesn't, you might be wise to conduct one on your own.

Attire to Get Hired - Summer 2009

Spring and summer bring to mind images of love, vacations, walks on the beach and evenings by the pool. But you need to get a job in an office. Or you already have a job and you want to move up the ladder of success. What to wear? Contrary to the popular myth, unless you are in a glamour or very artistic industry there is no such thing as summer work casual. You can, though, fine tune your attire for the summer season though. Here are a few ideas.

Shirts

First, unless you are a pediatrician, a chemist or a barber - ban short sleeve shirts from your spring and Summer wardrobe. Long sleeves are the only acceptable style. A variety of fabrics and colors are acceptable. Pure cotton shirts are best (I prefer pima cotton but oxford cloth and poplin are popular too). Polyester can get warm. The collar is more a function of formality and style. English spread collar is the most formal. The American straight collar in the next most formal. The button-down collar is the least formal. Tab and collar pin styles are traditional but on again - off again styles. As for colors - white and pale blue are best. A fine muted blue or gray stripe is next best. Pale yellow and pink are best left to preppy outfits such as law firms and white shoe Wall Street enclaves. French cuffs are best left to the more senior executives and the power brokers.

Ties

Every spring men put on a whole rain forest of bright splashy ties. Avoid the trend. Go with small patterns (neat diamonds or circles) or regularly spaced wide stripes (regimental or old school) in natural colors. While darker colors are more popular in fall and winter, spring and summer open the door to: yellows, purples, reds (vs. burgundy), sky blue (vs. navy) and salmon or pink. Big tropical prints, words, graphics or pictures (with the horsy exception of very small snaffles or stirrups) and heavy fabrics are OUT for spring and summer. Think light weight silk and cotton madras vs. wools and heavy drapery fabric silk. Now that MSNBC's Tucker Carlson has shunned bow ties - as have the leadership of Nation of Islam - perhaps you should take a wait and see attitude on the classic too.

Suits

The cut for spring and summer suits are the same as for fall and winter suits. The wools should be lighter weight. The colors are the same: medium gray, gray pinstripe, navy blue and blue chalk stripe. Stay away from plaids and more fancy stripes unless you have at least six basic suits in the combinations noted above. The suits should be either two or three button depending on your build. Trousers can be either pleated or flat front depending on build but must be properly hemmed with cuffs. No spring or summer vests. Cotton suits of tan, olive and navy are acceptable once you are in the work force. The question of seersucker should be based on observation of those around you at least one level above on the corporate ladder. Most likely they will fit in on Wall Street or at preppy law firms. Finally, the blazer and trousers is not the spring and summer replacement for the suit. Keep them for the country club and dinner parties.

Shoes

There is no such thing as fall and winter vs. spring and summer shoes for men. Perhaps there should be but there is not. No white shoes except for classic bucks to wear to the club or parties. No sandals with suits and no woven leather shoes - ever. They are just too tacky for words. The classics are for year-round wear: cap toed laced shoes in black and dark brown, tassel loafers (expensive dress ones - not the outlet store types) in black and dark brown, expensive dress loafers of either the penny or snaffle style or the European-styled monk strap shoe in black and dark brown with the buckle on the side (very popular with non-Asian businessmen in Asia by the way). Shoes should be well maintained and polished at all times. No clunky shoes, no flip flops, no sandals, no boat shoes and no white plastic loafers - regardless of what the salesmen say. And if your shoes look more like running shoes than dress shoes then they are wrong for both interviews and work unless you aspire to a career in law enforcement.

Belts

Two belts for suits. Classic leather, thin with brass or silver metal small buckles in black and dark brown to match the shoes. Period. No white. No cute logo belts. And always wear a belt (unless you choose to wear classic braces also called suspenders - and never clip on ones and never with a belt).

Underwear

You are a grown-up now. Pick your own underwear. But in the spring and summer you must wear a WHITE tee shirt under you shirt. No one wants to see your nipples or you sweat stains. As for socks - wear dark ones. They should be black or navy blue or dark gray depending on your suit. No white or tan or creatively colored socks. And unless you are a genius or you work for the most preppy of Wall Street law firms - socks are required at all times.

Putting it all together

Wearing a crisp cotton shirt, a spring toned but traditional tie, a classic suit in light weight fabric, traditional shoes and belt and the right underwear will not necessarily get you hired or get you promoted once you are employed. But it will not hurt you either. Follow these steps on spring and summer attire and you will have an advantage over 90% of men whether you want to get hired or be considered for the big promotion.

Most Common Summer Jobs For Teens 14 and Over

The importance of money nowadays is now a common lesson that parents are teaching to their children no matter how young they are. Kids take their first glimpse into the business world through lemonade stands or maybe even selling Girl Scout cookies. But in this century, money seems to be a more important factor in our daily lives especially with the skyrocketing of the prices of daily needs.

Children now have bigger wants and needs and will usually look for summer jobs to do in order to gain more money. This usually happens when they reach their pre-teens or the adolescence stage which is when they are about 12-14 years of age.

Summer jobs for teens usually consist of mowing lawns, baby sitting, or doing household chores. There are the occasional odd jobs like dog walking or gardening. But this is the century of technology, so kids nowadays don't leave the house to earn money. Instead, they stay in and use their computers to find jobs to do that not only allow them to earn more but also earn without exerting too much effort.

Teens now avail of easy online jobs like answering surveys, pay-per-click or pay-to-click. These jobs do not require any work experience at all and are easy and simple. They earn as much as $2 per survey or even more, depending on the offer of the website that is paying them. There are other online jobs that kids avail of but the most common are these three listed above.

Summer Fun - Finding The Perfect Summer Camp Jobs

If you are interested in summer camp jobs, there are a few basic questions you need to ask yourself first. The most important questions you need to ask include:

Do I enjoy working with children?

Do I enjoy being outdoors?

Do I have experience working with children?

Have I worked with children within a similar setting before?

If you answered yes to all of these questions, you are the ideal candidate for summer camp jobs. But, if you answered no to the last two questions, you still might be great for a summer camp. Just be aware that you might have a slightly more difficult time finding summer camp jobs that you are eligible for if you do not have experience to back up your interest.

Deciding What Type of Summer Camp Jobs are Right for You

Whether you are experienced or not, there are several steps you can take to help guarantee the summer camp jobs you consider are right for you. First, you need to decide what type of camp you want to work for. For example, are you interested in a residential camp or a day camp? At a residential camp, you will likely be expected to stay on site both day and night along with the campers. At a day camp, on the other hand, you will be able to go home each evening. If the camp is near to your home, this wont be a problem. If the camp is located far from home, on the other hand, you will need to find your own housing if you decide to work for a day camp.

Choosing Summer Camp Jobs that Match Your Philosophy

In addition to deciding whether you want a day camp or a residential camp, you need to also be aware that each camp has its own philosophy. Some are competitive while others are not. Some specialize in certain sports or activities while others are more general. Some focus on teaching new skills while others are more recreational in nature. Be sure to find camp that suits your personal philosophy. Otherwise, you will struggle with performing your job properly.

Getting Started Right Away

If you have decided that you are truly interested in pursuing summer camp jobs, you can't wait until the last minute before applying. In fact, most camps have their returning staff in place already by fall. If spots are still available, they begin the interview process over the summer and the early spring. Therefore, waiting until the summer to begin applying will be too late for most camps.

Doing Your Research

Before you start browsing through available summer camp jobs, do a bit of snooping around. If you know someone that has worked at a specific camp or has any type of experience with a camp, ask him or her about the experience. Find out if it is truly a good place to work for our not.

Once you have combed through the summer camp jobs and found the one that is perfect for you, you will be starting down a magnificent path toward a job with numerous rewards - namely, life long friends and the knowledge that you have made a difference in many young lives.

Summer Job Listings for Teens - Find Out Who's Hiring Now

Does your teen want to earn money this summer but is under the age of 16? If you're 14 or 15 years old and school is out, depending on the state you live in, you can work up to 40 hours a week. While the competition will be steep for teens looking for work this summer, there are still ways they can earn money. Some of the jobs your teen might consider are:

  • Babysitting

  • Walking neighbors dogs

  • Cutting lawns

  • Window washing

  • Washing cars

  • Teaching people how to use the computer

  • Cleaning residences

  • Passing out flyers

  • Delivering newspapers

  • Golf caddy

  • Helping with summer camps for kids

  • Movie theater

  • Dairy Queen

  • Grocery store bagger

  • Working at a theme park

This is only a short list of ideas teens can use to begin thinking about where to find a summer job. You can also let other family members, neighbors, and friends know you are trying to earn money for the summer. In the event they are not able to find a paying job, they should consider volunteering. When a teen volunteers, they gain work experience and will have a reference that he or she can use for future employment. If they are a good employee, the company may offer them a paying position in their organization when they are old enough.

Whenever your teen sees a help wanted sign, encourage them to go in and apply. If they are searching on the internet, it won't hurt to fill out the application. They might get lucky and get the job. The most important thing to remember is to be persistent and don't give up.

There are several websites that provide job information for teenagers.

  • CoolWorks

  • Snagajob

  • Teens for Hire

  • Youth Rules

  • SummerJobs.com

It is not too early for teens to learn how to create a resume. The employer would be very impressed of how responsible they are. It will prepare them for future opportunities they may encounter at a later time. There is an excellent website called Zibkids that teens and kids can tour and learn about entrepreneurship.

Finally, depending on where your teen is working, they may need a work permit. If a permit is required, they should check with the representative responsible for issuing work permits, or the state labor agency. The teen will need to provide a social security card, and a birth certificate for identification purposes. However, they must have a job offer before even applying for the work permit.

Summer Jobs for 15 Year Olds - How Decide Where to Apply

Are you a teenager or a parent who is looking for summer jobs for 15 year olds (like your child)? If so, you will find a limited number of options. Many companies prefer to have teenagers working for them who are at least 16 years old. With that said, even a limited number of choices still presents a lot of job opportunities for you or your teenager. So what jobs should you or your child apply for?

First, why don't we cover a few of the summer jobs for 15 year olds that are available. For starters, you have your standard run-of-the-mill babysitting job. Parents are always on the lookout for responsible teens to baby-sit their children. Summer camps always look to hire paid junior counselors for camp sessions as well. For teens who would like to avoid childcare, many towns and villages across the country hire teenagers to perform landscaping work in the summer. A locally run landscaping business may also hire.

As previously stated, a large number of employers prefer to have teens who are at least 16 years old working for them. With that said, some do have a hiring age of only 15. The positions and duties they can perform are often limited. For example, a grocery store might offer summer jobs for 15 year olds that involve stocking store shelves, cleaning, cart collecting, and so forth.

As you can see, there are many summer job options for teenagers in the 15 year age range. But what jobs should they apply for? The best option is to decide why you or your child (if you are a parent) is looking for a job. Are they looking to get a jump-start on their future career or are they looking for a fun way to make money?

For example, lets say that you are a fifteen year old, who would to become a teacher. Working as a teacher involves being hands on with children. Working as a part-time babysitter or as a summer camp counselor can help gain you much needed work experience at a very young age. The same holds true with landscaping should you wish to later run your own landscaping business.

It is great to be focused about the future now, but lets face it - you or your child are only 15 years old! This leaves a lot of time to prepare for a future career, so making money while having fun may be the biggest issue right now. In that case, it is advised that they apply for jobs that interest them. Working in a grocery store might be fun due to the fact they are always on the go (never bored), in contact with other people, and so forth.

These are some factors to take into consideration when it comes to apply for summer jobs for 15 year olds. Also remember that it never hurts to apply for a lot of jobs. After all, there is no surefire guarantee that you will be hired. The more jobs you or your teenager applies for, the better their chances are of landing a job.

Great Summer Job Ideas For Teens

Summer is here. Some teens are out there actively looking for jobs that suit them. Or are they? When I look at typical jobs for teens today, such as working at a fast food restaurant, I think there must be a better way for kids to make money.

Other teens are thinking about relaxing and just having fun. As a parent you may be wondering, "Who is going to pay for that summer fun?" Maybe there is a happy medium. A part-time summer job is a good solution because it allows teens to have fun and earn the money to pay for that fun.

In addition to working with teens and being an author, I have owned a few businesses. I love being my own boss because I get to do things my way. It's also a great learning experience and-best of all-all the pay for my hard work goes to me minus some small start-up costs and costs of doing business.

So here are some great business ideas for teens who want to work for themselves:

o Lawn maintenance: Mowing, weed pulling, raking leaves, and with some research, planting. Initial cost could be very low with a used lawn mower, hedge trimmers and clippers.

o Web consultant: Most teens I know have a way with computers, and most adults I know struggle with them. Teens can help adults set up and manage social networking sites, such as "MySpace" and "Facebook."

o Nanny: Teens who like kids can baby sit during the summer while the parents of young children are at work.

o Dog walker or pet sitter: Animal-loving teens can walk dogs or pet sit while their owners are on vacation. I'm always looking for someone to help me with my animals, and I pay $35 to $50 a night.

o Car detailer: With a few supplies and a little coaching, teens can wash and wax cars, clean vents and vacuum car interiors right in their own driveway.

o Errand runner: Elderly people and small business owners often need help running errands.

o Guy or gal Friday: There are always odd jobs around the house or office that are left undone. Teens can even cook meals for families where both parents work.

o Cleaning service: For teens who have a sense of what is clean and what is not, this is a great business. Most of the time people who want their homes or offices cleaned buy the cleaning products so teens just have to show up and clean.

o Tutoring: Teens who excel at school can offer to help younger children who are going to summer school or who need help with subjects they are having difficulty with during the school year. Parents love this one.

o Small business assistant: I have enjoyed hiring teens to help me with different jobs for my business. They came in for two hours a day to shred papers, organize inventory, help with mailings, make phone calls, clean and do other jobs as needed.

Once teens choose a business, the next step is to make a business plan.
Things to consider include what supplies they will need, how many hours they want to work, how much money they are going to charge, and how they are going to market themselves. Getting the word out can include making and posting a flyer, telling all of their parents' friends and asking for referrals, dialing numbers in a phone book, or dropping in on businesses or service groups.

I think working is a lot more fun when you are your own boss. So my advice to teens is: Go have some fun and make some money and let me know how it goes.

Tips on Getting Your Yard and House Ready For the Summer Months

Spring is here and it is time for some cleaning inside and outside your home. After months of harsh winter weather and staying indoors, it is time to do a thorough overhaul on your yard as well as the exterior of your home to get ready for the beautiful summer months. This article will describe all of things you need to do from getting a Sacramento pressure washing for your brick home or stone patio to doing all of your windows with Sacramento window cleaning.

The first step to Spring cleaning your exterior living quarters is clean up. After the winter and all of the leaves have totally fallen all and hopefully removed in the Fall go back over the entire yard with a rake. Get rid of all of the old leaves, twigs and other things that are covering your planting beds and grass area. This is a big job but one that makes your yard look so much better once completed. Some people also choose to thatch their yards at this time.

The next step for your yard and gardens is to get it ready for the planting season. Take time to spread a fertilizer down on both your garden areas as well as your yard. This should be followed up with a heavy application of Preen to cut down the amount of weeds that will come up in the warmer months. The last step before planting flowers would be to purchase mulch or bark to spread underneath bushes, trees and flower beds. This will help to eliminate weed growth and to keep the moisture concentrated to the soil. It also helps the property to look really clean and fresh. Now you are ready to plant your annuals to have beautiful color all summer long.

The next step is to address any concrete or stone areas as well as a deck. The best way to clean up dirt, mold and weeds that grow on or around a patio is to use a pressure washer to get it looking like new. One can also be used on a deck prior to repainting or staining it to give it a just built appearance. If you have a brick home, the washer can also be used to clean the exterior of your home as well as clean out all of the gutters. You do not have to buy one of these washers as they are available to rent or you can hire someone to do it for you.

The final step is to repaint old wooden furniture or get some new fresh pillows to place on your outdoor seats. You can buy various colors in the weather proof fabric that will give your seating area a great new look. A nice front door always makes a big impression and maybe a new color or a fresh coat of paint will help to make your exterior look better. The final touch is some beautiful hanging plants and flower pots and you are ready to spend some time outdoors!

Chuck R. Stewart has hired a Sacramento pressure washing company and a Sacramento window cleaning company to help his parents with the housework.

Summer Tutoring: A Good Idea

As we end the current school year, like every year, we find ourselves waving good-bye to quite a few students for the summer. Understanding the need for rest and relaxation, we aren't surprised. But, as many parents contemplate whether this is a good idea or not, I am often asked, "Should we take a break over the summer?" The answer is a resounding NO!!!

The reasons are simple and clear:

Work ethic is lost.

Finally, students have become used to being academically challenged. They have spent a whole year doing homework, practicing for tests, and using their brains to get them through the day. All of a sudden, they are just allowed to stop being academically stimulated. During the summer, the little brain exercise they could get is suspended. This is very detrimental to a child especially if the child already struggles with school. They have built this tolerance to doing school work, but after the summer, the tolerance is lost and they become lazy towards their learning all over again.

Children simply forget.

If you have children, or know any children, one thing most parents understand about kids is that they forget. They can remember the latest song lyrics, or the characters of their favorite TV show, but if you ask them to find the volume of a cylinder, or recite their multiplication tables, they have a problem. I love my son to no end, but I also know that most of the time, he can't remember anything more than a minute past his own face. Now, give him a month or two. The concept is long gone. If your child is not like this, consider yourself lucky. Your child probably doesn't need tutoring.

If they are already behind, you are losing the chance to catch up.

Parents often hire a tutor to get them caught up to the skill level they are supposed to be. If a child is still behind by the time summer hits, wouldn't it be a good idea to keep them engrossed during the summer and possibly get them where they need to be before the next year? During summer, they have no other distractions, and they can focus on one thing catching up. A worse scenario is to start the next year still behind and have the teachers pull the class ahead, leaving the student behind in the process. At that point, the child is back where they started, but they could have avoided this if they took the chance to catch up or even get ahead during the summer.

America is falling behind.

In the current global economy, many of the available jobs that are open are high-skilled, high-intellect jobs. Americans are losing out to other countries in these jobs because the other countries are out-performing us academically. If you take a look at some of these countries like Singapore and Finland, there is no such thing as summer break. Their students are used to rigorous academic study because they are conditioned to be students all year-round. This also means that they are used to working all year-round, kind of like the way they will have to work as adults. We have to start reconditioning the mental work ethic of our children, or we will continue to fall further behind in the rankings. Just watch "Waiting for Superman" from director Davis Guggenheim, a documentary that gives some startling information about the state of education in America. It was unsettling. A solution presented among others in the movie is that our students need to be going to school for a longer time during the year, not taking two-month breaks. Many schools are doing this and are creating excellent results.

The best way to keep a child's intellectual stamina up and to increase their learning retention is to keep them learning. If you have hired a tutor you are pleased with, I recommend you keep them in tutoring to protect your investment. Otherwise you may be starting from scratch when they come back.

Please check out this article from the National Summer Learning Association for some of the research on Summer Learning Loss. Remember that the children need all we can give them before it is too late. Extra tutoring can only help them, not hurt them. More education will build them more opportunity.

Summer Jobs for Teens: Now Is the Time to Look for a Job

Does your teen need to find a summer job? Now is the time to snag one, because if you don't think about that summer job before summer, it will probably go to someone else - and that's if you can find a job at all.

There are a few options available for teens who want to make extra money this summer. Standard jobs are a little harder to come by right now, but even so there are plenty of ways to earn money over the summer, even for teens as young as 13 years old. Here are three ways for teens to go about finding jobs outside of traditional employment that might work out for some extra cash:

  1. Clean pools or homes. People are always in need of service-related help, especially for jobs that are personal, like cleaning people's homes and swimming pools. These kinds of jobs aren't always advertised, mostly they reveal themselves through word of mouth. Still, a good place to find people who need their homes cleaned is checking the community or church bulletin board, or simply asking adult friends or family members if they would consider hiring you for the summer. You might be surprised at how many people who weren't planning on hiring a house cleaner or pool cleaner, suddenly decide to give it a shot just because you asked.

  2. Also, even if there aren't any regular opportunities for cleaning, there is sill the temporary "odd job" option. Many people go on vacation during the summer and need some temporary maintenance performed while they are away.

  3. Check with community centers and summer camps. Sports camps and community activity centers always hire teens in the summer to help out with sports camps, and other children's entertainment and activities. If you don't know where to look, just ask around at your local community recreation center, or the YMCA.

  4. Take a few online paid surveys. Paid surveys are always good for a little extra cash or free stuff. Teens love it and its easy. What many people don't know is that teen survey companies let the kids have their own accounts. Plus, you can sign up and just do them when you feel like it. No commitment required.

Even in this distressing economy where part-time jobs seem to go to more "responsible" adults who need the work, it doesn't take away from the fact that teens want or need to earn their own money. Teen surveys, helping out with summer programs, and cleaning some homes and pools are great was to earn a little extra cash over the summer.

Here is where you can find free paid surveys information and free list of teen survey companies.

Summer Jobs For High School Students - Where To Start?

Looking for a summer job? So is everyone else. Where should you start?

The first thing you need before looking for a job is a resume. It is best to ask your parents for help with that one. If you're on a worker's permit, you might need a few letters of recommendation. Make sure you look into that before going job-hunting.

What you can do right away is start networking. You need to get yourself out there and start talking to your friends, neighbors, counselors, and others to let them know you're looking for a job. You'll be surprised what kind of jobs you'd find. Another place you can look at is at places you or your parents usually shop. When you're at these stores, you can politely approach the manager and ask if there are any job opportunities available.

Alternatively, you can look for internships (paid and unpaid). The best places to look for these are non-profit organizations. They tend to hire the most interns. A great place to start looking for internships is at your school. Go talk to your guidance counselor and ask if she knows of any internship opportunities. School officials often have connections with these types of things.

You can also look for jobs on the internet and in the newspaper (classified ads section). Look at the ads and call each of the employers to introduce yourself. Remember to sound very enthusiastic about the job opportunity while maintaining a professional tone. It will be easier after a little bit of practice. Be careful though, there are some sketchy job board websites. Unfortunately, about 80% of the jobs out there are not published online or in ads. You'll have the most luck going shop to shop talking to the managers

The internet is very useful however for looking what jobs are available at a young age. I'm sure you'd like to work at a lot of places, but not all of them hire people under 18 years of age. I suggest you go to your favorite search engine and type in: "How old do you have to be to work at _______?"

You can only do so much research until you have to take some action. The best thing you can do right now is print out a stack of resumes and walk shop to shop, restaurant to restaurant, and outlet to outlet to find yourself a job!

Since everyone is off from school, plenty more summer jobs for high school students are available right now. Check out http://highschoolism.com/ to find out which jobs to look for.

Corporate Event Planning - Tips For Summer Parties

Not everyone has the skills for corporate event planning in NYC. It takes persistence, dedication and knowledge to organize a summer event that participants will truly enjoy. Although event planners generally have help, they are still in charge of putting all the party puzzle pieces together. This is not always an easy task, especially when assigned helpers have little imagination. If that happens, the summer event organizers will have to rely on their past experiences and tips, such as these:

1. Know your budget - The amount of money you have at your disposal for your corporate event planning in NYC will largely determine what kind of summer event you can organize. Will you have enough to hire an entertainer and rent a tent, or will you have to settle for a potluck picnic in the park?
2. Know your guests - Planning a summer event for children will be different than festivities for adults. There is also a huge difference between a celebration that includes entire families, and one attended by company executives. Be smart, and ask your audience what they enjoy the most.
3. Find the perfect location - Keep note of the information employees have provided. If many live on one side of New York City, do not plan your corporate bash on the other side. If you do, few people will show up. The event location should be easy to find and have ample parking - always provide maps and driving instructions.
4. Do not forget the details - Experts in corporate event planning in NYC know how important details are. When you rent a tent, you will also need seating, tables, a stage, a dance floor, lighting, and a bunch of other accessories. Do not forget the ceiling fans as temperatures can rise quite high during the summer.
5. Drinks and food - Plan your refreshments, snacks and meals well. Offer lost of choices so everyone will find something they like.

Job Hunting in the Summer and Overcoming Ad Requirements

I have had the privilege of coming across an article by Kim Isaacs, who is Monster.com’s Resume Expert.  Kim helps us weigh out if summer job hunting is worthwhile.  If you wait until September to pick up your job search, you will be competing with many others that had the same idea.  Yes, people do vacation in the summer, but not so much that they have no availability at all.  It’s not school people.  We don’t get three month long breaks anymore.  Sometimes the hiring process can take a little longer because of vacations but corporations are still all about business.  Sometimes summer is prime time for hiring, especially if there are projects planned for the fall.  To keep your search moving forward you should:
