Attributes of a Good Employee That Employers Look For During a Job

Every time a company advertises for a job opening, hundreds if not thousands of job seekers forward their applications. It therefore goes to show, in order for you to stand out from other job applicants there are some aspects you have to seriously take into account.

Whenever employers conduct interviews, they are in search of candidates who show confidence in themselves. It is always advisable to be well informed; this plays a major role in improving your self esteem. Be informed in different areas since interviewers ask questions that are sometime not necessarily related to your area of expertise.

In addition be flexible, to prove that you can be used in other areas of business operation. A business owner always wants to have an all rounded worker. Familiarize yourself in financial and social issues by reading the newspaper on current affairs. Know what is happening in the stock market especially if the company you are looking to work for is listed.

Interviewers ask simple questions like, "are you married?" even though you may not be married at the moment, always show you have plans to do so in future, this proves your maturity level. Employers always look for a future oriented employee.

Whenever you fail to qualify for a job, rather than giving up find out where you went wrong and improve on it. This are some of the basic requirements that you need to consider to increase your chances of landing your dream job. Keep your dream alive, even if it takes long before you get a job since nothing in life comes easy.

Turn Up Your Listening Skills During the Job Interview

It's In The Ears

If you thought interviewing was only about answering questions, you've been missing the point. You've also been missing an opportunity to gather valuable information. Listening is one of the skills most underutilized by candidates. Most people go into the interview thinking and worrying about how they will answer the questions, and they forget that they are there to find out about the job and the company. They forget to listen, observe and read between the lines.

Ready to Answer Questions

The first candidate, Reena sat answering questions and waiting for her turn. When asked, "Do you have any questions?" she was ready and took out her list of questions.

Sounds like she did everything perfectly. Right? Not quite. She forgot one thing, and that was to listen. If she had been listening, she would have heard the emphasis placed on retention. There were at least three questions asked about her plans for the future; how long she planned to stay with the company; why she had only stayed with her last company two years. If she had been listening, she might have been struck by the focus of these questions.

"I've heard some concerns about retention in the questions you've asked me. Could you tell me the turnover rate for this department/company?"

If she had asked that question she might have found out the turnover rate was quite high. In fact, that was a big problem for the company. If she had been listening, her next question should have been, "Is there a specific reason employees leave?" She may, or may not, have a gotten a forthright answer, but she would have been able to make her own judgment, and observe the interviewer for signs of discomfort with the question. Observing is another way of "listening" or taking in information.

Turn up your Intuitive

Another candidate, Jerry, listened when he interviewed, and picked up the thread of questions pertaining to stress and long hours.

He asked, "On a scale of one to ten, with ten being high, how would you rate the stress and pressure levels in this department?" And then, "Is this the norm, or a seasonal level workload?"

He had already worked in a "sweat shop" where he was expected to work 60 plus hours a week. He isn't about to walk into that situation again. He noticed the two interviewers look at each other when he asked this question, and they agreed it was a six. Jerry figured that must mean an eight or ten, and continued to ask more questions about the subject. He listened carefully - reading between the lines. He gathered information he wouldn't have gotten had he not been on their wave-length - tuned in and listening. He now had enough information to make a decision as to whether he wanted to work for this company, in this department.

Rewards of Listening

When all you can think of is the answers that you will be giving, you miss a premium opportunity to garner information about the situation you are about to enter, if you take the job. The bonus of listening is that you impress the interviewer by the fact that you have heard what was said, and sometimes what was not said. The best questions you can ask come as a result of listening. Turn up your listening and intuitive skills. Read between the lines! You'll be surprised at what you hear.

What You Should Do in Your Garden During October

October is the time when you should start getting ready for up and coming winter even though we are only a few weeks into autumn. The jobs that need doing this month involve tidying the garden and harvesting any grown fruit.

Your Lawn
Your garden lawn should be starting to slow down with less growth so you are only looking at one or two more cuts. On these occasions raise the cutting height on your mower to give the roots more protection over the up and coming winter months.

You may live in a cold area, if so now is the time to carry out any work to the lawn. Use an autumn lawn feed to help your lawn through the colder months.

Make sure any fallen leaves are cleared; these will block sunlight from getting to your lawn which could lead to your grass turning yellow.

Your Greenhouse
Now is the time to give your Greenhouse a clean. Emptying your Greenhouse completely will make this an easier job all round. Cleaning now will clear any dead plants making the area ready for the next season. Once clean you can put your plants back.

It's also a good time to think about insulating your Greenhouse, bubble wrap can work wonders and can also help bring the cost of your heating bills right down over the colder months.

It's important to ensure that you don't get your Greenhouse too wet at the moment. This could lead to mould and your plants dying off.

Despite the weather becoming cooler, you can still grow Sweet Peas during the next few months ready for Springtime ready to be planted out in March next year.

Your Vegetable Garden
Did you cut back any Asparagus you may have had growing last month? Well if not, make sure this is done this month.

Onions should be planted now to be ready for next Spring and early Summer.

You can cut off the tops of your Peas and Beans this month. These can then be cut up and added to your compost. Only dig the roots in the next time you dig the bed in, the compost will then act as fertilizer.

Maybe start to think about digging your beds over in the next few weeks, frost will then help to break lumps down.

You should be harvesting any Pear or Apple trees you may have.

Now is a good time to think about planting spring cabbages, do beware of the pigeons and make sure you cover these up.

Your Borders
If you have any herbaceous plants that aren't flowering or have simply got too big, these can now be divided.

With frost now threatening you need to look at removing any summer bedding before these plants are killed off.

If the frost has blackened your Dahlias it's time for them to be moved to a cold greenhouse so the frost can't get to them.

Flowering bulbs for Spring should be planted now. October is also a very good month to plant trees.

Garden Pruning
If you didn't cut back your hedges last month, then this is your last chance before winter.

Prune back your Budlia, Roses and Lavatera to about half. This will stop the wind from damaging the roots during the winter months as well as tidy them up. Tie back any shoots you have on climbing roses.

Garden Birds
If you have bird feeders and baths then be sure that these are now kept clean. Also keep them well stocked up with different bird feeds. This will help the birds you have been feeding over the next few months.

If you want to feed Hedgehogs over the coming months, then be sure to use special foods that are available on the internet or in pet shops. It's a common myth that Hedgehogs should be fed bread and milk, this can be dangerous to them, so do stick to foods that are available and you will be pleased to know that they love Slugs.

Veteran Job Search - How Veterans Can Find Jobs They Really Want During Good Or Recession Times

As unemployment rates go up across the country, veterans transitioning into a civilian workforce are facing a tougher time finding work after leaving the military. A recent survey by CareerBuilder.com showed that 1 in 5 veterans looking for a job said it took more than six months to secure one after leaving active duty.

At times veterans feel that they are dealing with a whole new set of rules and skills that they are not accustomed to. Among one of the most frustrating obstacles is an employer's inability to understand how military skills can fulfill qualifications for civilian positions. Many veterans are finding that job posting boards are not much help. They spend the time submitting their resumes on these sites and never hear back from anyone. This coupled with the inexperience in interviewing for civilian jobs or having viable job finding skills is directly affecting the ability of these veterans to find work. Then when they do find work it is often at a rate of pay that is far below their skill level. And, they find many unwanted surprised along the way.

If you are a veteran looking for a job you will improve the quality of the job you are getting, and avoid unexpected surprises by doing a little more research.

How Veterans Can Find the Job They Want

One thing to consider is who the employer is? There is nothing worse than finding a job and then discovering that the employer is going out of business. This is especially important if you are considering moving to a new area for that job. Then there is the surprise of finding a job that is just awful. The only reason that the job is available is that nobody wants to work there.

Here are a few simple things that you can do in order to give yourself the best possible chance of matching with a good employer:

1. Pull up the website for the companies you wish to work for

You can learn a lot about a company by what is on their website. Often companies will put news articles about the company on the site. These articles can tell you what is important to the company and a little bit about their culture. You can also learn about the history of the company and their values. This information is good to incorporate into your interview as it shows that you did your research.

On some sites the bios of key employees are located and you can learn a lot about who makes up this company and where they came from. All this will give you a good gut feeling about who they are.

2. Use search engines

One of the best ways to perform a search for companies is to use Dogpile.com. This site will compile information from all the other search engines. So instead of looking through each search engine this one will take out the duplicates and give you the most relevant information.

Another good source is the Better Business Bureau in the city where the company is located. When you call ask them for a reference and see what type of reputation the company has established with them. The service is free to the public and they will tell you if there have been any complaints and what they were about.

3. Search the local newspaper

Another easy thing to do is go on-line to the local newspaper and search past articles using the company's name. Also, complete a search by using the name of the company's president. When you find an article read it to see what they are known for. In some cases you might discover that the company has a charity that they regularly sponsor. You might even find that the company was involved in some type of problem. Basically, you are looking for both good news and bad to help you make a good decision and avoid the surprises.

4. Talk to Employees.

The best sources for information on the companies you want to work for are current and past employees. Who better to tell you the good, the bad, and the ugly of the company? But what if you don't know anyone at the company?

Then talk to the receptionist. These folks usually know more about what is going on about everything and are willing to share if you treat them nicely. One way to score points with a receptionist is to talk to them when they hit the slow point in their day. In most cases this will be between 10:45am and 11:30am in the morning. By that time most of the morning urgent calls have already come in.

When you talk to them tell them that you are considering getting a job there working and would appreciate knowing more about the company. Let them know that you value their comments and will keep it confidential.

Many times the information you get from this source will be more valuable and complete than anything else you do.

Follow this advice and you won't get stuck with a job that no one wants just because you are a veteran. You can find your dream job and get hired fast even during a recession if you just follow the advice above.

Finding Employment During Hard Times May Be Difficult, But Don't Let a Recession Hold You Back!

Finding steady employment can be hard in these economic times. With so many people being laid off on a daily basis, the idea of even submitting resumes is scary. Despite the economy, there are still companies that are hiring and are even growing.

Even though times are tough, keep in mind what you are willing to do. Not every job available will be something you are willing to do. Yes, there may be more jobs you would take now that you wouldn't normally take, but that doesn't mean you have to compromise your principles just for employment.

Start your job search by composing a killer resume. Companies are being inundated with resumes and will not look at every single one. Make sure yours stands out. There are services that can help you with this. Most will charge a fee, so make sure you know what you are getting.

Scour the online job sites and submit your resume to any company that holds your interest. There are several free career sites to check out. Career Builder, Monster and Hot Jobs are a few of the more popular ones. The city you live in may have its own career site as well. Don't forget to check the newspaper classifieds too.

If the online route and the classified sections aren't working for you, look into temporary services to help find employment. Competition can be fierce here, but it is important to get your resume to anyone who might be able to get you a job.

The key to finding stable employment is to treat job hunting as a full time job. This can be hard if you already have a full time job. In this case you would need to treat the job search as a second job and submit resumes in the evening and schedule interviews during your lunch hour. Don't let your current employer know you are job hunting. You don't want to lose your current job before you get the next one. Staying determined is the key to landing the career you want. As long as you don't give up, you will find the employment you are looking for.

Executive C-level Job Search: 3 Mistakes That Keep $100k+ Executives Unemployed During a Recession

Question: Would you be interested in an executive job search system that would guarantee feedback so you can improve your results?
Answer: Of course you would.
In this article, I share with you the top three mistakes every $100K+ executive makes when looking for job leads. I also show you how to change your job hunting approach so that you can measure your results every step of the way.
Mistake #1: Using the Wrong Executive Job Search Model
Most $100K+ executives, when looking for their next career opportunity, fall back into old models that were learned early in their careers. This is often presented by an outplacement firm that still holds onto the classic lead-generation approach and it includes these elements:
1. Create a list of target companies that you would want to work for,
2. Contact your network to find people who work for those companies currently,
3. Call your network and ask for an "informational interview," and
4. Continue the process until you find a position.
But there are real problems with this approach.
- First, this entails using a "front-door" approach, and there are many gatekeepers whose responsibilities include keeping you out.
- Second, many executives abandon their networks after a while. And, many of those in their network that are actually active are just peers. Regardless of how well intentioned they are, peers are often unable (or unwilling) to help you.
- Third, the informational interview approach is practically dead. Although your network may want to give you ten minutes of their time, in most cases they simply can't afford to accommodate you. I know that if I granted every informational interview request that was asked of me, I'd have no time to do my real job!
What is the answer to this traditional model of finding a job?
The Solution: Use a New Executive Job Search Model
The model I suggest using when looking for your next C-Level executive position is the one I teach in my MarketOne™ Executive system. It moves you from an "activity-based" approach that the traditional model employs to a "synergistic-positioning" approach that:
1. Positions you as a top thought leader in your industry
2. Leverages your current job, network and career for greater momentum
3. Utilizes marketing and sales strategies to turn strangers into interested parties.
Mistake #2: Not Having an Effective Executive Job Search Message
The next mistake most $100K executives make is how they design their value proposition presentation – both in print and in person. Traditionally, we are taught to pull out our old resume, dust it off with a few new bullet points that list new achievements and Adding in our last employer and job title. The executive summary (and thereby the elevator pitch) is a fluff piece that focuses on the most recent achievement using flowery words in hopes of impressing and wowing their next potential employer.
The problem is that the pitch is boring, flat and it sounds like everyone else's pitch.
In marketing terms, you are part of the cacophony of noise that will not get you noticed. And this will not get an interview. You haven't defined a compelling message that engages, excites and resonates with anyone – not even a recruiter!
The Solution: Shift Your Message
You want to present yourself as a top talent that brings thought leadership to a company. You want to show how you will propel that company to its future. I call that message "potential."
Potential is THE question that is asked when CEOS and Boards of Directors are looking to bring on top talent. It is the difference between one candidate over the other. I can't tell you how often a CEO has turned to me and asked, "Which one of the two or three Vice President candidates has the greatest potential for our firm?"
To show your potential you must shift your presentation to your audience instead of you! You must show your potential employers what's in it for them!
Mistake #3: Using the Wrong Executive Job Search Method
The third and BIGGEST mistake most $100K executive make in finding job leads is using the wrong method. Without a system or plan, the current wisdom is to contact everyone (again, without a message that is compelling or interesting) and blast their resume to everyone they know. Then the follow-up is to (embarrassingly) ask if the person they are contacting knows of any openings. If the answer is "no," then that's where it ends.
Unfortunately, that can keep an executive out of a job for a long, long time.
What's the answer?
The Solution: Develop a Measurable, Systematic Game Plan
You need to develop a systematic game plan that creates metrics and benchmarks so that improvement can be made along the way. This is the only way your job search campaign will create results!
Most $100K+ executives would never launch a new product, service without a clear system.
Why shouldn't our $100K+ job search campaign have the same focus?
By simply fixing these three BIG executive job search mistakes, you will find your next C-Level executive position A LOT quicker – even during a global recession.

Mass Effect 2 - Tali Romance, All Scenes [HD]

All the Tali romance scenes from Mass Effect 2, put together with a dash of cheesy editing. Footage taken from the PC version, maxed out. Great quality! The fact that I didn't include her post-romance "I got sick but it was totally worth it" line got mentioned a few times in the comments. It was a very cute line, and it did the important job of confirming that the experience wasn't lethal to her. However, I felt that--at least in the context of this video--the comedic tone of that line clashed with romantic tone of the video. I also just wanted the video to end on a high romantic note, not a comedic one. That's just my opinion anyway. I do understand completely why some feel the line should've been in there, I even have it recorded.
